EDWARD B. WEST
Passed away peacefully on Friday January 22, 2016. Edd was born on May 29, 1925 in Ozark, Arkansas to the Reverend James G. West and Mary Yoder West, the 5th of 5 children. Edd spent his formative years moving from small town to small town in Southern MO and Northern AR as his Dad practiced his Ministry career. He left high school early to enter an Officers Training Program for the Navy being offered at the College of the Ozarks. He enlisted in the Navy on July 1, 1943 and was discharged on July 4, 1946 with the Rank of Lieutenant. After his discharge, Edd attended Missouri Valley College where he earned his Bachelor”s degree in Mathematics. He then started teaching mathematics at the Missouri School of Mines in Rolla, MO. He then took a graduate assistants position at the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO where he earned his MBA in Mathematics. His next position was a Professor of Mathematics at Lamar College in Beaumont, TX until September of 1953 when he was recruited by IBM to work in Marketing and Sales in their Government Contracts Division starting in Houston, TX. Edd had a very successful career with IBM, all of it in the Washington, DC area. Edd spent 29 years with the company before retiring in February of 1983. He lived all 59 years in the same house in Kensington, MD and spent his retirement traveling the country, volunteering in the community and working in his gardens. Edd is preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Elizabeth. He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Mildred Asa, whom he met in Dexter, MO; daughter, Susie Robinson (husband Donnie); son, Ed West (wife Nancy). He also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Edward West (wife Gina), Tim Robinson, Melissa Soto (husband Juan), David West, Brian Robinson, Stacy Joyce (husband Jeff) and David Foxworthy, as well as three great-grandchildren: Sofia, Alex and Aidan Soto. There will be a Memorial Service on Friday January 29, 2016 at 2 P.M., at Warner Memorial Presbyterian Church, 10123 Connecticut Avenue, Kensington, MD. 20895.
