MARIA A. ALFONZO
On Tuesday, March 22, 2016, of Silver Spring, MD. Maria was born in Zacatecoluca, La Paz, El Salvador on February 14, 1947. Hoping for a better life for her children, she moved to the United States when they were very young. She took on various jobs to make sure they had what they needed, and her success is evidenced in the lives of Hilmar, Onix, Maria, Frank, and Aura. Her legacy also extends to a host of grandchildren (Michael, Marie, Lavinia, Cecil Jr., Bianca, Carolyne, Thalia, Emory, Giuliano, Dante, Trinity) and great-grandchildren.
Dedicated and hardworking, Maria served as a banquet waitress for over 30+ years at L’Enfant Plaza Hotel and the National Press Building. Her loyalty and strength is witnessed in the abundance of friendships she made along her journey. She was easy to talk to, a great friend and confidant, and gave words of wisdom and support to all who needed them. “Strong” is the one word you will almost always hear when family and friends describe her, and her faith in God was immeasurable.
