MARGARET ROSE TURRO BRACH
Born Margaret Rose Turro, Mrs. Brach was a native of New York City and the Executive Assistant to the Queens Borough President until she moved to Washington DC with her husband in 1963. A fifty-year resident of Chevy Chase, she was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Church Sodality and PTA where she was active in fundraising and was the editor of the parish cookbook and leader of the Girl Scout troop. After raising six children, she returned to the workforce in 1977 at the Apostolic Nunciature where she held several positions until her retirement in 2006. She was active in many volunteer organizations including acting as the secretary to the DC Society of Professional Engineers and Mathcounts for over two decades. Mrs. Brach passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 19, 2017, at the age of 84. She had resided in an assisted living facility in Knoxville, TN, for the past four years.
Beloved wife of the late Dr. Philip L. Brach, Sr. and devoted mother of Ann Brach, Elizabeth Brach Hughes, Lucia Hare, Philip L. Brach Jr., Martha Brach, Matthew Brach and the late Joseph Paul Brach; grandmother of Felicia, Christopher and Alexandra Hare, Evangeline and Matthew Gus Hughes, Joseph, Philip, Patrick, Margaret, Lucia, Edwin, Sarah, Rosemarie and Elizabeth Brach, Alexis, Emily, Matthew and Isabella Brach; great-grandmother of Elijah Wheeler.
Friends may call on Friday, February 3 from 6 to 7 p.m. in the main church at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament, Western Avenue at Quesada St., NW, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 7 p.m. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring, MD, at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 4.
