HSUE TUNG
On Friday, April 25, 2014 of Greenbelt, MD. Dr. Hsue Chong Tung was born on August 12,1931 in China. He immigrated to the United States at a young age where he earned two Master’s Degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Oklahoma State University in 1955, and in Mathematics in 1959 from the University of Illinois. He also received a Doctorate in Applied Mathematics in 1963 from the University of Illinois. Dr. Tung worked as an engineer in private industry and in the federal government, including the Department of Commerce, NASA, and Department of Transportation. He was a member of the Pi Mu Epsilon National Honor Society, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and was listed in American Men of Science. He was recognized for his dedication and commitment to excellence for his work on Apollo XI, the first lunar landing mission; the first operational mission of the TDRS satellite project; Spacelab1; and the successful third flight of the Space Shuttle Columbia. Dr. Tung also served as a visiting professor on the faculty of Towson State University. Dr. Tung is survived by many nieces and nephews in the United States and in China. Relatives and friends may call at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard West, Silver Spring, MD on Saturday, May 3, 2014 from 12 to 1 p.m. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
